In the last few years, I’ve really begun to dig into my Bible. Hearing people talk about it is great, but it isn’t enough. I want to know what the Bible says for myself. I want to dig into God’s Word and understand it for what it meant to the original hearers and what it means to me. I’ve actually made a lot of mistakes along the way. Raise your hand if you have taken a verse totally out of context. Yeah, me too. But I want to be teachable. I want to learn.
Right now I’m reading the Bible through chronologically. I have no time line for it because I have six kids…my goal is to finish. I also am deep diving and studying through the Bible chronologically. By deep diving, I mean taking my time and doing repetitive reading, defining words, understanding the context of the Bible (who it was written to, why it was written, and when it was written, etc.) Deep diving has a much slower pace, but I’ve really learned so much from taking my time and breaking the scripture down so I can communicate it in my own words.
Every now and then I share about what I’ve learned. God’s Word never gets old. It’s timeless and I find the more I read it and understand it, the more I hunger for it. I love that so much.
And of course, I want to encourage you to get into God’s Word, too. Don’t just believe what everyone says about the Bible. Dig into the Word for yourself. Be careful not to take it out of context; search the scriptures.
Together we can be teachable. We can learn. We can know God’s Word for ourselves.
